La década del sesenta estaba por terminar pero Los Beatles tenían un as bajo la manga. En plena etapa de “psicodelia”, la banda de Liverpool lanzó una de las obras maestras del rock contemporáneo. Previo a su separación y después de haber dejado de tocar en vivo, ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ muestra el minucioso y exhaustivo trabajo de los Fab Four en el estudio de grabación con un resultado excepcional y que sigue teniendo vigencia en la actualidad.
El 1° de junio de 1967 John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison y Ringo Starr dejaban al mundo boquiabierto con el lanzamiento de este disco, que sería a la postre una de las obras más aclamadas.
A cincuenta años de tal acontecimiento, la banda relanza el álbum con nuevas mezclas en estéreo, audio 5.1, sesiones jamás antes editadas, videos especiales y packaging de lujo. Además, incluye un documental realizado en 1992 llamado ‘The Making of Sgt. Pepper’, restaurado para el boxset de lujo aniversario.
Esta nueva versión del disco sale a la venta el 26 de mayo pero ya puede ser pre ordenada en el sitio del grupo. Las mezclas fueron realizadas por Giles Martin y Sam Okell en estéreo y 5.1 y fueron expandidas con tomas que fueron realizadas al comienzo de las sesiones en el estudio, teniendo en cuenta no menos de 34 grabaciones inéditas.
“Es muy loco pensar que 50 años después estamos volviendo el tiempo atrás con este proyecto con mucho cariño y un poco sorprendidos por cómo cuatro músicos, un gran productor y sus ingenieros pudieron haber hecho semejante obra de arte”, dice el mismísimo Paul McCartney en el prólogo de esta nueva edición.
Para el “Record Store Day”, el 22 de abril, Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/Ume sacará a la venta una edición limitada en vinilo de siete pulgadas del single “Strawberry Fields Forever” y “Penny Lane”. Ambas canciones fueron grabadas al comienzo de esta etapa en noviembre de 1966, quedaron fuera del disco original y vieron la luz como un single doble lado “A” en febrero de 1967.
